About Sensei Salil Nadkarni
 

Salil Nadkarni a resident of Pune, India is born in 1962. He is a Bachelor of Chemistry, a Diploma holder of Paint technology and Bachelor of Law. Salil started his martial arts training in Judo in the city of Pune in 1978, in 1980 he started training in Wadoryu karate-do. After six years of practice he came to know that his instructor in Wadoryu is not a legitimate black belt so the belts awarded by him were not recognized. So he shifted to Isshinryu karate-do.

In 1992, Salil was awarded Sho (1st) dan black belt in 1992.

In 1994, Salil was awarded Ni (2nd) dan blackbelt in Isshinryu karate-do. In 1994 he received Cho (1st) dan black belt Taekwondo (ITF).

In 1996, Salil participated in Isshinryu World Karate Championships held at FL, USA. During this tournament he had an opportunity to participate in a seminar by Kichiro Shimabuku. Salil met Sensei Dr. Milledge Murphey (Founder and President of Isshinryu Brotherhood) during this tournament.

In 1998, Salil decided to join Isshinryu Brotherhood (IB) to further his knowledge in Isshinryu karate-do. In 1998, Salil was awarded San (3rd) dan black belt in Isshinryu Karate-do.

In 1999, Salil was awarded “Distinguished Instructor Award 1999” by Isshinryu Brotherhood (IB), FL, USA.

In 2000, Salil was awarded Yon (4th) dan black belt in Isshinryu karate-do by IB in 2000. American Isshinryu Karate Association (AIKA), TX, USA awarded Salil the title of Renshi-go and a Yon (4th) dan. In Oct’ 2000, Salil participated in “Millennium 2000 World Cup of Martial Arts Championships” held at Sydney, Australia by International Sports Karate Association (ISKA) with his team, He won a Gold medal in Kata and a Bronze medal in Kobudo event in 4th-6th Dan black belt category. Along with his team Sensei Salil won total 9 medals at this tournament. He was awarded Yon (4th) dan black belt by Okinawa Isshinryu Karate Association (OIKA), Australia.

In 2001, Salil was awarded “Spirit of Isshinryu Karate-do” by American Isshinryu Karate Association (AIKA), TX, USA.

In 2002, Salil was awarded Go (5th) dan black belt in Isshinryu karate-do by Sensei George Iberl from PA, USA.

In 2003, Salil participated in “OIKKA Hall of Fame Championships” held at PA, USA. He won 2nd place trophy in Kobudo event and 3rd place trophy in Kata event in 4th -6th dan black belt category. During his stay there he had an opportunity to train with Sensei Georg Iberl, 9th dan Isshinryu. Along with team of his five students won totally 12 trophies.

In 2004, Salil was awarded Roku (6th) dan black belt in Isshinryu karate-do by sensei Georg Iberl, Salil was awarded Rokudan by IB, FL, USA too in the same year. In 2004 Salil was awarded “Isshinryu Brotherhood Order (IBO) Hombu Merit Award” by IB, FL, USA for exemplary service to spread traditional Isshinryu Karate, same year he was awarded “Spirit of Isshinryu Karate” by Okinawa Isshinryu Karate Association (OIKA), Sydney, Australia.

In 2005, Salil participated in “13th Australian World Cup of Martial Arts Championships”, he won 1st Place trophy in Kata event in Senior Master’s category, along with team of his six students won 13 trophies. Salil visited Matayoshi Kobudo dojo of Kyoshi Aurthur Moulas, 7th dan Matayoshi kobudo at Tahmoor, Australia and had an opportunity to train with him. In 2005 he was awarded Yon (4th) dan black belt in Okinawan Kobudo by Dr. Ted Gambordella, Kyu (9th) dan Kobudo.

In 2006, Salil was awarded an honorary San (3rd) dan in Gojuryu karate-do by Hanshi Tetsuhiro Hokama, Ju (10th) dan Gojuryu karate-do from Okinawa, Japan.

In 2007, Salil participated in “2007 ISKA International Martial Arts Championships” held at Sydney, Australia. He won 1st place trophy in Kata event in Senior Master’s category. Along with team of his six students won totally 9 trophies.

In 2009, Salil was awarded Nana (7th) dan black belt in Isshinryu karate-do by Sensei Georg Iberl, Ju (10th) dan Isshinryu karate-do. Salil was awarded Go (5th) dan black belt in Okinawan Kobudo by Hanshi Ted Gambordella, Kyu (9th) dan kobudo.

In 2010, Salil was awared Nana (7th) dan black belt in Isshinryu karate-do by Sensei Dr. Milledge Murphey, Kyu (9th) dan Isshinryu karate-do, President Isshinryu Brotherhood (IB), FL, USA. He was also awarded with the title of Kyoshi-Go (Master instructor) by IB.

In 2010,Sensei Salil Nadkarni is featured in "Isshinryu Master's Performance" DVD published by "Cape Fear Isshinryu Karate Association", North Carolina, USA. In this DVD total 49 Isshinryu Masters (Rokudan and above) all over the globe are featured, a few of these masters, like Harold Mitchum (10th dan), Kensho Tokomura, happen to be Tatsuo Shimabuku's (founder of Isshinryu) first generation students.

In 2010, Salil is awarded with title of "Shihan" by Martial Art Masters Hall of Fame Association.

In 2014, Salil is awarded Roku (6th) dan black belt in Okinawan Kobudo by Hanshi Ted Gambordella, Ju (10th) dan

In 2016, Salil was one of the finalist for "Sensei of sensei" award by IHOF,TN, USA.
Salil is awarded Hachi (8th) dan black belt in Isshinryu Karate by Sensei Georg Iberl Ju (10th) dan Isshinryu Karate-do & also by Sensei Dr. Milledge Murphey Ku(9th)dan Isshinryu Brotherhood( IB), FL, USA.

In 2018, salil Participated in 1st International Karate & Kobudo Chanpionships held at Okinawa ( Birth palce of Karate).
He had an apportunity to train with legends like Mario Hinaonne, Tetsuhiro Hokama and Tsuyoshi Uechi.
Two students of IKKAI team reached among top 16 competitors in Bo & Sai category

In 2019, Salil participated in " Isshinryu Hall of Fame (IHOF) Championships " held at Gattinburg, TN, USA. He won two trophies in Kata ( 3nd place ) & Kobudo (4th palce) in master's category. Along with team of his 19 students won 29 trophies and grand championship trophy.
Salil was one of the finalist of " Sensei of sensei award by IHOF,TN, USA.

In 2021, Salil is conferred with honourary Membership of United States Black belt Federation.
Salil is conferred with honourary membership of Zen Nihon Yudansha Renmei

About Sensei Sharmila Nadkarni
 

Sensei Sharmila first developed an interest in Isshinryu  Karate-do in 1987, after her marriage. Three years after their son was born,  she started learning Isshinryu  Karate under the guidance of her husband Salil Nadkarni.

In 1994, She received her shodan  in Isshinryu karate.
In 1996, She received her Ni (2nd)Dan in Isshinryu karate.
In 1997, She participated in Isshinryu world karate championships, hosted by Sensei Dennis H. Fink Kyu (9th) Dan at Queens, NY USA.
In 1998, She received her San (3rd) Dan in Isshinryu karate
In 2002, She received her Yon (4th) Dan in Isshinryu
In 2005, She received her Go (5th) Dan in Isshinryu
In 2010, She was awarded Roku (6th) Dan in Isshinryu karate by Dr. Milledge, Murphey, Kyu (9th) Dan Isshinryu, who is President of Isshinryu Brotherhood (IB), from Florida, USA.

Sharmila was awarded the title of Renshi-Go (Polished Instructor) by IB, thus making her highest dan holder female karateka in Isshinryu in India. She holds Yon (4th) Dan blackbelt in Kobudo too.

In 2019, She participated in 1st International Karate & Kobudo champianship held at Okinawa, Japan.
She had an opportunity to train with Legends like Tetsuchiro Hokawa and Tsuyoshi Uechi.
She was awarded Nana (7th) dan in Isshinryu Karate.
She is awarded with title of " Kyoshi-90" and Isshinryu Brotherhood (IB), FL, USA.
